WFMW ~ Backwards Edition ~ Sending out Birthday Cards

I love the idea of always getting Birthday cards sent out to family and friends but so far I haven't been very successful. I was wondering if any of you have any tips of how you stay organized with that and how you remember to get them out on time?
I do have dates written on the Calendar and I usually make all of my own cards, I have some made ahead of time or I have the stuff to make one quickly. The issue I have is getting them in the mail and also turning the calendar up for a new month and then remember that my Mother-in-laws birthday is on the 2nd and now it is way to late to send her a card.

Anyway, what are your suggestions?

WFMW ~Backwards edition ~ What do you do with Tomatillas?

Today I get to ask you a question... And mine is: What do you do with lots and lots of Tomatillas? (Or husk tomatoes).
I planted them a few years ago thinking that they might be fun to try and ever since then they have been coming up like weeds and I have oodles of them! Unfortunately I am not extremely fond of green salsa and my try at syrup/jam from them like they did in the little house books is just sitting in our cupboard.

But if you know me at all, you know I hate to waste (especially food!) and I wondered if you have any great ideas for using them up. Some ways that I have used them successfully is chopping them up and putting them in meatballs or meatloaf but I still have trouble using them all up. I have also tried giving them away and that works once and a while but most people that I offer them too don't know how to use them either.

Anyway that is my problem, what is your solution?

My fun weekend.

I had a very busy and very fun weekend! (that would be why I wasn't posting.) It actually started on Thursday when Brandt and Jenny and family(and a friend) came over to Bemidji to help work on our new church building. They stayed overnight with us. We had some fun talks and it was great to spend time with them. Then on Friday we also invited all of the other workers at the church building (because we don't live very far away) over for lunch. We fed 8 workers plus women and children (18 in all I believe). It was fun.
On Friday I also worked on flowers for a wedding on Saturday. The bride had chosen a color scheme and flowers that I had a lot of fun working with. She had mostly white and green with brown and light pink accents. Above is her bouquet. Below is the groom's Boutonniere.
On Saturday morning I had to drive a while to deliver them and then I also worked on decorating the reception area with flowers. Below is one of the centerpieces.
On Sunday after church we went out to eat lunch at my parents ( a yummy ham meal!) and then afterwards we headed off to go to the twin Cities for the Labor Day Rally. Ken stayed home (to work on staining our deck and set up the Republican office) but Irindee and Keren rode down with the kids and I.

The rally was a lot of fun! We got to see christian friends from all over the country from the East Coast to the West Coast! The Theme was "The Road Less Traveled" and Paul Barber was the speaker. He did a great job and I enjoyed and learned from the sermons I heard on Submission, Community and Discipleship.

I also greatly enjoyed listening to the Quintet above (made up of Wayne, Lance and Joel Osborn, Van Palochuck and Alex Alexander). They sang a bunch of songs that had been sung by the group Accapella. Accapella and AVB had been (when they were singing) my favorite groups and I was just recently wishing that I had some of their music on CDs (instead of cassettes which I can't play) because I was wanting to listen to them. Listening to the men above was just as good, they did a great job.

We also had a fun time singing praises to God together. Listening to others like the Blanshans was also very fun. (I'm sorry I don't have better pictures of the weekend. The lighting is not good in theses 2 and they were all I took!)

We had a safe trip home last night and now we are working at getting our laundry done and getting ready to start school this week. (One of the blessings of homeschooling is getting to set your own schedule!)

I hope you all had a great Labor Day Weekend as well! What were the highlight for you?
