Some WIPs in the heat of almost summer

Asalamu Alaikum,

I have only been able to knit/crochet at night, when we turn on the AC in our room, or just for an hour while sitting on the roof in the breeze before maghrib time(sunset prayer). I hadn't done any knitting at all for weeks then decided to start three projects all at once.

This one was inspired by a blanket my grammy made for my brother. It came with us to Abu Dhabi, and I liked it so much that I wanted to make one for Saad.

I took all the yarn for the blanket and divided it up into little lengths, enough for one row each. It was trial and error to figure out how much, there was much ripping involved.


You can see it is pretty basic, a group of double crochet stitches, followed by a chain. When it is all finished you hook each chain up over the chain above it to the top. This was actually taken sometime last week so it is a bit further along than this.


Next up is the Seascape Shawl from Knitty. I have loved this for the longest time. I have four skeins, that equal to about 500 yards, and I am making it a bit wider than the original. I am wondering if I have enough yarn, I might have to try to get back and find more, we'll see.


Lastly is a special request, one of Tariq's cousins had seen my Tasha bag, and asked if I could make a small bag for her. so I showed her one that I had been looking at for some time, the Albem purse, she liked it so I started that and it is moving pretty quickly. When the knitting part is finished I am planning to add a lining and a couple pockets.

Simplicity Set

This little project was just for fun. I saw a pattern for this really simple necklace on Ravelry and it looked kind of cute so I thought why not?

Necklace, Braclet, and two styles of bindia.

Bracelet, with a button clasp.(the necklace has the same style)

Triangular bindia, which I don't like so much.

Circular bindia, I really prefer the way this one turned out.

Pattern:The necklace and bracelet are both the Understatement Necklace. The necklace is about 20 inches and the bracelet is about 7 inches. The bindias I just made up.
Thread:Some cream colored tatting thread(no idea the size, the band is long gone!)
Hook:Steel size 7
Accessories:Three matching buttons, some seed beads and a larger size of pearl type beads.

Last FO of 2010

Asalam Alaikum,
This is my last FO of 2010, a hat to match the crochet baby jacket I finished a while back. The jacket and hat are going to one of our neighbors who is a close friend of Tariq's, for his one year old son.





Here is Saad modeling, he kept saying "this for chota(small) baby, nahi(not) Saad. Saad want blue hat." Apparently he does not like the color of the stripes.


Pattern:none, just made it up.
Yarn:Acrylic
Hook:US F

There are a couple more FO's from 2010 I just haven't gotten around to getting pictures yet.

These were for my husband's cousin's wife, who has a thing for chucks and for pink.

Knitting Update and A Sad story

So I decided to knit up "Fetching" for my Mom, to match the "Fake Isle" hat already finished.

I also started this dragon hat for my DH's nephew but i think i may frog it and do a different one in crochet, this one is not thick enough.


This part is a little sad and requires some backround-
my DH is from Pakistan, he used to live in Detroit with his cousin and his cousins wife, one time his mother came to visit and while there crocheted this-


A roughly 2'x1' rectangle of double crochet, Whatever it was intended to be, it was left unfinished with the DH's cousin when she returned to Pakistan. Fast forward 3 years, my DH moved to Florida, met and married me, we found out we were pregnant, tell his family, and a couple of months before the baby is born his mother passed away. we just left florida and are staying with the cousin and they find it, and the DH has now asked me to crochet around the edges to make it large enough for a baby blanket for our son. I am happy to do this so my little one can snuggle up with it while his daddy tells him about the grandmother he never got to meet. From my DH I have learned what a remarkable woman she was and regret very much never having had the chance to meet her.

In which I first share some craftyness with the world

So as promised last post here are some things that I have actually finished... first up....georgeous husbands slippers, completed mid august around 8 am on a "sleep-in sunday". I dont even know if he knew at the time that they were on his feet, as he was asleep. But I just had to see how they looked, I have always loved slippers that look like sneakers. They are crocheted.

Next we have some of the very first knitting projects I ever made(I am a longtime crocheter and only just learned how to knit this spring from my very very good friend Sister Z.). These are what I made for my soon-to-be son, the booties are a little wonky, but hey they are the first thing i ever knitted. the tiny hat is so cute, the sweater was the "five hour baby sweater" which I found on the net, and it only took ME 10 hours. the pants are sort of my own creation, "knit as you go and hope it turns out ok". They also contain my first I-cord, which took several calls to my mother to figure out.

I classify this next project as finished, even though I am not sure that it is, it is a knitted prayer rug for my husband, problem being that I dont think that it is large enough for him. I am seriously considering adding a crocheted border to it, hence the "I think it is finished but then I am not sure" label I have attached to it. I usually end up using this one and he uses the other store bought rug, because he is a little on the tall side and I am a little vertically challenged.

Maybe next time I can post some WIPs, and you can see the questionable taste of my husband in his choice of colors/patterns for his sweater...
