Eid Mubarak From Pakistan!

Asalam Alaikum,
In Karachi we celebrated the first day of Eid al-Adha on Saturday.

We had bought the goats a couple of weeks ago, because the DH said the longer that you wait the more expensive the goats. For the past two weeks or so this has been a pretty common sight on our street-

I took this picture from the roof of our house. When I heard the jingling from the bells and things on the goats I had to run to get the camera. These two men were herding goats down our street, heading for the main road in our little section of town. Just about everywhere we went were men with small herds of goats or sometimes cows, just standing on the side of the road so that people could buy them for the Eid. This produces a lot of related businesses that spring up next to the goat sellers-some people set up stalls selling food for your animals, and some for animal jewelry. I am totally serious about the jewelry. They have bangles that jingle for the feet and necklaces covered in beads, bells, and sometimes ruffles.

Here are some examples of goat jewelry-

Alhamdulillah this is the third anniversary of the day I took my Shahada(In the Hijri calendar). It was on Eid al-Adha in 2006 that I went with my husband to the Masjid, Prayed my first Eid, Took my Shahada, and had my Nikah. As it is also Thanksgiving(sort of, I know I am a bit late on this one also), I just want to say that I am so thankful for -
my Faith
my husband who brought it to me
my son
my family and friends
and the opportunity to have the experiences of living here and in Abu Dhabi. Even though at times it has been very difficult, it is amazing to see the variety that life in this world holds.

Sleeping Bear II

Yes, its the same 'Sleeping Bear' panel as the first one. Since the first one was gone, someone suggested I make another.

Its slightly different this time, but still in the pinks :-)  I've put a solid mauve as 1st border and found a lovely pink checked as its 2nd border. It worked well together.

A lovely pastel pink backing fabric and the same mauve fabric for binding.

Made it slightly bigger than the previous one this time. Sweet for a lil girl.

Measurement : 40"W X 54"L
Made up of 100% American cotton
Price : RM160
Status : SOLD!

I'm a proud mother

Sara, my 10 year old decided to sew one day and rummaged through my 'scrap basket'. She said, "Please teach me to use the machine mom, I want to sew something". I was ecstatic!
I guess I secretly waited for the day she would show interest in sewing :-)

And so I thought her how. She took time and chose all the scraps she wanted, sew them together and eventually made the above pillow (18"L x 12"W), feeling very pleased with her effort.

Then her lil' sister Maya (she's 3 years) wanted one, and so she chose her own scraps and asked Sara to do one for her. Maya's lil' pillow was 14"L x 9.5"W.

Both of them wanted the same polkadot fabric for the backing and I helped them with this part. Sara's sewing is not too bad, I must say :-) She did all the sewing and ironing herself.

Here it is, my girls' project all done. I'm ever the proud mom! Sara is looking forward to start on other small projects and was very happy with her handiwork!

Happy Thanksgiving!

May you be full of Gratitude, this day and always to our wonderful God and Father, our Creator and Provider!

"Enter His gates with Thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name!
