Valima!

Asalam Alaikum,

On Sunday night we went to Ammena's valima. MashAllah, she was gorgeous! The beading on her husband's sherwani was made up to match her dress, and they just both looked so nice, mashAllah.

The setup for the valima was beautiful. The color theme was a bluish teal with black contrast, and there were the icicle lights. I love the icicle lights, they always give me a fairy tale wedding vibe. The stage was nicely set up also, with a simple elegant back round decorated with flowers.

I counted (I think) six dishes- fish, chicken tikka, kebabs, biriyani, halwa puri, and a chicken korma(I think, I didn't try it but Tariq might have, I was too full). There were a whole bunch of different types of salads, and for desert there was qulfi with falooda noodles.

I managed to not have a wardrobe malfunction, even wore my fancy shoes too. I did forget the camera batteries though, the big camera battery I left at home in the charger and my smaller ancient digital(runs on AA's) went dead and I forgot the extras.

Mendhi Party!

Asalam Alaikum,
Yesterday night we went to my friend Ammena'a mendhi party. It was a lot of fun, and her in laws seem like really nice people, mashAllah.

The setup was beautiful, the main color was orange with hanging icicle lights. The main stage for the bride and groom had a beautiful swing draped with a rainbow of different colored flowers(still with the main orange theme). There was also a dance floor set up! Even though I don't dance(it would not be pretty if I did, let me tell you!) it was great to see everyone having such a fun time.

At almost every function I go to I always have some random, weird little wardrobe malfunction(like at my sister in law's shadi the drawstring of my dress peeked out from the side:-( ), and this party was no different. This time I was ready, I tied my drawstring extra tight and tucked it in, I managed to fashionably set my dupatta all by myself, and then we were off in the taxi. When we got to the party and went inside to say hello, I wondered why I was walking so comfortably and why my shoes slipped off so easily when we went in the house. I sat down and was chatting with Ammena when it occurred to me. I immediately got up and went back to the doorway to check my shoes. Truly a huge facepalm moment, after carefully getting dressed up, I had left my fancy rhinestone and bead encrusted heels in the main entrance to our house and worn my grungy house chapples(flip flops). Errrg! When we got home I asked Tariq and his sister both- when ever we leave for a party please, oh please, check my foot wear! Alhamdulilah, one of Ammena's husband's cousins kindly lent me a pair of her shoes, and so I didn't have to walk around the party in my house chapples. Extra big thank you to the sweet cousin!

MashAllah, everything was wonderful, the music was good, and the food was great, and I can't wait until Sunday(only tomorrow!) for the Valima. Everyone pray for me and my wardrobe, I will be attempting a sari!

A Little Gori Get Together

Asalam Alaikum,

Sometimes I wonder what my bloggy/facebook/internet friends are like, since I have never met the majority of them.

Alhamdulillah, last night I got the opportunity to meet Ammena, who has come to Pakistan for her Valima. She had come by to drop off the invitation to her mendhi and valima, and have a visit so we could get to know each other a bit more. MashAllah, she is a really great person and I am so happy to have finally met her!

Lots of love to my new IRL friend Ammena!

Yay for being picky!

Asalam Alaikum
So I am a little picky. While doing a KAL I can't just follow the perfectly nice pattern, I must change it.

This is the front, see matching buttons?

Here is the back, those also in the KAL might notice that after the moss stitch section I mirrored the previous sections so that the front and back match each other.

and here is the lining, complete with small pocket. I like this purse a lot, and took it for its first official use to the mall for last Fridays meeting of U-Knitted Amiras.

Updates of knitting and a little cutie

Asalam Alaikum,

So SOMEONE thinks that I should blog more often, and I totally agree so here we go!

First up, I just cast on this colorful little blur, it is going to be for me, I know I know its a red letter day! This is my own little spin of EZ's Moebius scarf, except that I want it to be sort of a shawl kind of thing so I am trying to make it a little on the big side, so it will sit on my shoulders.

Now this is photographic evidence of my slightly obsessive nature, two an a half BSJs...The brown and grey is for my DS, the pink/purple is for my SIL's Daughter, and the green is for her new son. Two and a half and no end in site, this pattern is a bit on the addictive side!

Here is the DS modeling for you, that'll show me to try and take his picture right after nap time.

Further proof of my insanity...

I, for reasons still unknown even to myself, bought this Barbie, and spent 4 hours, (4 hours people!) making this little outfit for her. Just so that you know, it was made with the leftovers from my suit, so not only do I sew doll clothes, I sew them to match me.

AAAHHHHH!!!!!! A ghost!!

Hey you paparazzi get outta my face!

And finally this is a tease for you, you know who you are!
